Microbiology Laboratory Accreditations & Certifications
Established in 1978 as a non-profit, public service membership society, A2LA is dedicated to the formal recognition of competent testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, proficiency testing providers, and reference material producers.
A2LA Laboratory accreditation uses criteria and procedures specifically developed to determine technical competence. The criteria are based on the internationally accepted standard ISO/IEC 17025 (which is used for the evaluation of laboratories throughout the world) and other technical program requirements developed with regulators and specifiers. Laboratory accreditation bodies use the ISO/IEC 17025 standard specifically to assess factors relevant to a laboratory’s ability to produce precise, accurate test and calibration data; including: technical competence of staff, validity and appropriateness of test methods, traceability of measurements and calibrations to national standards, suitability, calibration and maintenance of test equipment, testing environment, sampling, handling and transportation of test items, quality assurance of test and calibration data. Laboratory accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 covers the same quality management system principles that are addressed in ISO 9001 registration. To ensure continued compliance, accredited laboratories are regularly re-assessed to check that they are maintaining their standard of technical expertise. These laboratories are also required to participate in regular proficiency testing programs (where applicable) as an on-going demonstration of their competence.
Weas Engineering became A2LA accredited in 2018.
The microbiology lab at Weas Engineering has been specifically designed to process environmental samples suspected of harboring Legionella. Specialized sample containers are provided to our customers for collection of samples from potable water systems (bulk water and surface swabs) and cooling tower water. Samples that arrive at our laboratory are immediately processed and results can be reported in as few as 4 business days.
Weas Engineering adheres to the methods recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for the detection of Legionella. These methods involve a series of steps including, concentration of samples that contain few bacteria, selective suppression of non-Legionella bacteria, viable culture and serological confirmation of Legionella.
Weas Engineering became CDC Elite certified in 2012.
Certificate of Analysis
The Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP) of the Wadsworth Center was established in 1984, under Section 502 of the Public Health Law and is responsible for the certification of laboratories performing environmental analyses on samples originating from New York State, thus ensuring the accuracy and reliability of these analyses. Weas is committed to upholding the NYS ELAP standards and regulations.
Weas Engineering became ELAP accredited in 2018.
We provide Legionella testing for all customers in all U.S. states.
Optional services include having our team consult with you if assistance interpreting test results and/or remediating your systems is required. It is our intention to assist our customers in making sure that their facilities are being managed in safe and environmentally responsible manner.
